Lent Study Group

The Lent Study Group this continue on:

Wednesdays: 14th & 21st March.

This time we are looking at some of the hard sayings of Jesus in the Bible. His ‘uncomfortable’ words needs to be faced if we are to embrace the gospel fully in our lives.

Some of Jesus’ statements in the Gospels sound morally shocking – ‘Hate your father and mother’ – while others seem deliberately obscure. This 5-session course considers some of these challenges.

The sessions will each run from 2:00-3:30pm in the hall at St Andrew’s Tain. All are most welcome.

The two remaining sessions are entitled:

  1. Loving and Telling
  2. Trusting and Entering

The course has a CD which includes thought-provoking reflections by three theologians with quite different perspectives:

  • Bishop Tom Wright (former Bishop of Durham, now Research Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of St Andrews)
  • Revd Steve Chalke (a Baptist minister and founder of the Oasis Charitable Trust)
  • The late Fr Gerard Hughes SJ (was a Jesuit Priest and spiritual writer, whose book “God of Surprises” remains a best seller)

At the end of each session Professor Frances Young (Emeritus Professor of Theology at Birmingham University and a Methodist minister) provides a thoughtful Closing Reflection.
